Create a Worksite Wellness Program

Creating a worksite wellness program takes time and dedication. Wellness champions or management may be eager to get started with program activities, but the program will have little chance of success if time is not taken to carefully craft the wellness program. Getting the process started will include gaining managerial support, creating a diverse wellness team, and conducting a thorough needs assessment. This preliminary work will help the team create an effective wellness plan. A solid wellness plan will aid in smooth program implementation and continued success.

A great starting place is to note that a healthier workforce is good for both employers and employees, and the results can be quite large considering the majority of adults spend most of their waking hours at work. Workplace Wellness Programs not only improve individual health, but also:

  • Reduce sick leave and absenteeism
  • Reduce health care costs
  • Reduce workers’ compensation
  • Produce nearly a $6-to-$1 return on investment

Employers interested in starting a worksite wellness program can use a cost calculator to see how much money could be saved by implementing a workplace wellness program.
